Ragtime Jack Radcliffe and Andy Cohen
Take two talented musicians, and piano, guitar and vocals, mix with American blues, jazz and ragtime music and what do you get? ‘Ragtime’ Jack Radcliffe and Bluesman Andy Cohen! These two veterans of the blues and jazz scenes combine their masterful playing and enormous repertoires with a penchant for silliness to create an incredible performance of ragtime jazz and country blues accompanied by insults, jabs and bad jokes.
Bluesman Andy Cohen has been playing one kind of old time music or another since he was barely tall enough to reach the piano keys. Having known, studied and traveled with some of the legendary early blues musicians, his understanding and mastery of the country blues is unsurpassed. Andy delivers a catalogue of music, wit and wisdom from a broad spectrum of traditional American culture; he’s a walking folk festival.
‘ Ragtime’ Jack Radcliffe has been playing country blues and ragtime piano for more than 35 years. His major early musical partnership was with Georgia country blue guitar player and singer Larry Johnson. Critic John Wilson, in the New York Times, described his performance as “Powerful stride piano couple with exquisitely sensitive and tasteful renderings.” He is widely recognized as the master of country blues piano. Rags, stomps and blues are the heart of Jack’s performances and he’s an engaging and downright funny raconteur, as well.
